2014 DREAM BIG SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

SUBMISSION OF A COMPLETED APPLICATION AND AN ENTRY FEE ARE REQUIRED TO ENTER.  NO ADDITIONAL PURCHASE NECESSARY.   AN ADDITIONAL PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.  THIS PROMOTION IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

1.   SPONSOR: The Sponsor of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award Contest (“Contest”) is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, located at 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, D.C., 20062.

2.  HOW TO ENTER:  The Contest is open to individuals who:

1)    Complete an application for consideration of their business for the Dream Big Small Business of the Year award.  The application may be completed online at www.uschambersummit.com/award.  Applications can also be downloaded and mailed to: U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award, Attn: Sarah Keller, 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20062;

2)    Submit proof of their business revenue along with their completed application; and

3)   Submit an entry fee payment along with their application.  Entry fees are $25 for U.S. Chamber of Commerce members and $150 for non-members.  The $150 fee for non-members includes a $25 entry fee for the Contest and $125 membership fee which entitles the applicant business to a U.S. Chamber of Commerce small business membership for one (1) year.

3.  SCHEDULE:  The Contest begins on October 15, 2014 and ends on February 3, 2014.  All online entries must be received by 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on February 3, 2014.  All mail entries must be postmarked no later than February 3, 2014.  Applications submitted outside these time periods will not be accepted for consideration.  It is each applicant’s responsibility to observe time zone differences.

4.  ELIGIBILITY:  This Contest is open to small businesses with 2011 and 2012 annual revenues of less than $20 million per year and less than 250 employees.  Individuals who are owners or co-owners of a small business or a majority interest in an eligible small business may apply.  Such individuals must be of the age of majority in the state where they reside as of the date of the closing date of the Contest and legal residents of a state or the District of Columbia in the United States of America.  Employees (and their immediate family members and members of the same household) of the Sponsor and its affiliates, agents, advertising or promotion agencies are not eligible to participate in this Contest.  Also, pursuant to Congressional and Executive Branch ethics rules, Members of Congress, Congressional staff members, Executive Branch officials and their staff members are not eligible to participate in this Promotion.  All winners in this Contest must meet these eligibility requirements to receive the prizes. 

5.  SELECTION OF WINNER:  One (1) winner will be selected to receive the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award.  Seven (7) winners will be selected as Regional Finalists.  The selection process is as follows:   A panel of judges comprised of Sponsor staff will select 100 semi-finalists from all entries received.  These 100 finalists will receive the Blue Ribbon Small Business Award and continue on to the next round.  A second panel of judges comprised of Sponsor executives will select seven (7) Regional Finalists from the 100 Blue Ribbon Small Business Award recipients.  Regional Finalists will be notified of their selection on April 16, 2014.  A final judging panel of professionals will select one (1) of the seven (7) Regional Finalists as the winner of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year of Award.  Only the winner of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award will receive a cash prize.  The winner of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award will be announced on June 13, 2014 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Dream Big Small Business Summit event (“Event”).  Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received.

6.  PRIZE: The seven (7) Regional Finalists shall each receive the followiing:

  • Free attendance for one attendee of the Event (valued at $295)
  • A discounted registration fee of $295 for additional attendees of the Event (valued at $425)
  • One (1) free hotel room stay for up to three (3) nights to attend the Event and/or related events, the total price of which shall not exceed $1,000

The Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award recipient shall receive the following:

  • A cash prize of $10,000
  • Free attendance for one attendee of the Event (valued at $295)
  • A discounted registration fee of $295 for additional attendees of the Event (valued at $425)
  • One (1) free hotel room stay for up to three (3) nights to attend the Event and/or related events, the total price of which shall not exceed $1,000

All non-cash prizes are non-assignable and non-transferable, and are not redeemable, exchangeable or substitutable for cash.

7.  TO CLAIM PRIZE: Winners must be present in person at the Event held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, DC, on June 10 – June 13, 2014.  Winners will be required to sign a Winner Affidavit & Release form provided by Sponsor to claim the prize.  Winners receiving prizes totaling $600 or more will be required to complete and sign IRS Form W-9.  Winners agree to permit Sponsor and its affiliates to use their name, likeness, address, and prize information for promotional purposes in any medium without any additional compensation or permission required to the extent permitted by law. 

8.  MISCELLANEOUS:  All taxes and other expenses associated with the prize unless otherwise stated herein are the winners’ sole responsibility.   Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.  No other substitutions of prize permitted. 

9.  DELIVERY OF PRIZE: The prize will be presented to the winner during the Event on June 13, 2014. 

10.  GENERAL:  This Promotion and these Official Rules will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, U.S.A.  Entrants consent to the jurisdiction and venue of the federal, state, and local courts located in the District of Columbia.  This Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law and is subject to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. The Sponsor and its affiliates are not responsible for and disclaim any liability for late, lost, stolen, damaged, incorrect, incomplete, illegible, postage due, garbled, misaddressed, or misdirected delivery of prize to winner.   Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant if his or her fraud or misconduct affects the integrity of the Contest. By participating in this Contest, each entrant accepts the terms and conditions stated in these Official Rules, agrees to be bound by the decisions of the judges and warrants that s/he is eligible to participate in this Contest. By accepting prize, winners agree to release Sponsor, its affiliates, and their respective directors, employees, officers, assigns and agents, including without limitation, their advertising and promotion agencies, from any and all liability, loss or damages arising from or in connection with the awarding, advertising, receipt, and/or use or misuse of prize or participation in any prize-related activities.

11.  ONLINE ENTRIES: Sponsor shall not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software, inability to access any online service or website, inability to submit the online entry form, or any other error or malfunction, or any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Contest, or for late, lost, stolen, postage due, illegible or misdirected entries.  If this Contest or any website associated therewith (or any portion thereof) becomes corrupted or otherwise does not permit entry in the Contest, or if infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, actions by entrants, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes, in Sponsor’s sole opinion, corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper operation of the this Contest, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant implicated in such action, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this Contest or any portion thereof. 

12. CAUTION.  ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS GIVEAWAY IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS.  SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

13. WINNERS’ LIST: For a list of winner names, send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (S.A.S.E), received by August 15, 2014 to: Attn: Sarah Keller, Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award Contest, United States Chamber of Commerce, 1615 H Street NW, Washington, DC  20062.  A list of winner names will not be mailed until after all winners have claimed their prizes according to the terms of these Official Rules.
