Chamber Honors Five Businesses for Commitment to Corporate Citizenship

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) has awarded the 2006 Corporate Citizenship Award to five businesses for their outstanding leadership and commitment to their communities.

“BCLC’s Corporate Citizenship Awards are all about what business does right,” said BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. “We applaud the companies that were recognized last night – the winners and honorees alike – for standing out among their peers as high-performing, highly committed businesses.”

BCLC presented awards in the following categories:
  • Corporate Stewardship Award, Large Business—Intel won for reducing its environmental impact, providing employee volunteers around the world, and maintaining an 80% market share for its x86 microprocessor.
  • Corporate Stewardship Award, Small/Midsize Business—Chardon, Ohio-based Fairmount Minerals got the nod for operating under its Sustainable Business Model and for its five-year, $100 million increase in revenues.
  • International Community Service Award—The winner was Kimberly-Clark Corporation for its work with UNICEF to support children in 24 countries who are orphaned and made vulnerable by AIDS.
  • U.S. Community Service Award—Morgan Stanley earned the award for providing expertise, volunteers, and financial resources to the Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian.
  • Partnership Award—Capital One and Junior Achievement won for finding new ways to teach money management skills to more than 7 million school-aged youth from low to moderate income families.
BCLC also paid tribute to the hundreds of companies that contributed to the relief and recovery efforts following the Gulf Coast hurricanes in 2005. Office Depot was the first company to make a $1 million+ contribution and accepted a Citizen in Action award on behalf of the U.S. business community.

The awards were given at BCLC’s 7th annual dinner and celebration at Washington, D.C.’s Andrew Mellon Auditorium.
