U.S. Chamber of Commerce Radio Actuality Monday, May 22, 2006 "Net Neutrality Legislation" (:50 ) TEXT Telecommunications is the central nervous system of the American economy. Information traveling via the internet will increase 500 percent by the year 2020. To avoid information highway gridlock, competing telecommunications companies will need to invest hundred of billions of dollars to build more fiber lanes. Some interest groups want the government to regulate how these new information lanes will be used and paid for. These groups call this government regulation of the Internet "net neutrality." But Shakesphere tought us that a rose by any other name is still a rose. Well government regulation of the Internet is still government regulation of the Internet no matter what one calls it. Government regulation of the internet will drive away investors and customers will be left with fewer choices and higher prices. The internet has succeeded because it has NOT not regulated by the government. Don't gridlock our most important means of communications. Reject Net Neutrality. -William Kovacs Vice President, Environment, Technology & Regulatory Affairs U.S. Chamber of Commerce
